Who are the Handicappers?

The handicappers are all middle aged Midwesterners who love football, beer, and gambling.  They may or may not know what they are talking about and in most cases you should default to the latter.  None have competed in sports past the high school level.  Their prognostications are based on intuition, common sense, and taking the opposite side solely to say "I told you so".  Their nine.com accounts are usually empty midway through the season so follow their advice with care.

Why do you do this and how do you get paid?

The Sedge Court Journal football pick sheet is for informational and entertainment purposes only.  We enjoy football and the occasional friendly wager.  The Journal is our forum for talking smack and documenting our individual records for the year.  We do not and will never charge for our selections.  Our Site is supported solely from advertising so please do not keep us a secret.

How are the selections made?

Each handicapper is required to make three selections per week.  Based on the results of their pick they are either awarded or deducted points.  The handicapper with the most points at the end of the season wins the prize and bragging rights till next year.

How do I find and track the selections?

You can track our performance one of three ways.  First, is to visit the home page and scroll through our posts to read the selection and the corresponding justification.  Second, is to visit the current record page.  All selection and their point values are recorded here and updated several times a day.  Thirdly, you can visit the site every tuesday/wednesday when we issue our weekly report card.

Who determines the betting lines?

The lines are determined by the odds makers at nine.com.  The line at the time that a selection is made will be the line used for determining the result of that selection.  For example, if a selection is made on Tuesday for a match-up on Saturday, the Tuesday spread will be used regardless of line movement.

How are the points calculated?

Each capper starts the season with 10,000 points.  The may wager a minimum of 100 points or a maximum of a 1000 points on any game.  Cappers are required to make at least three picks and a maximum of 15 per week.  Each capper is allowed a bye week were they can bypass their picks.  After their bye week missed picks are treated as losses

How do I become a Sedge Court Handicapper?

If you would like to participate in the competition please send an email request to rob at sedgecourtjournal.com.  If we like you we will consider giving you a shot.

Do you recommend an online sports book?

No.  However several of us use mybookie.com.  They have been in business a while and seem to be running a good sports book.
